Program Increment (PI) Planning is the heartbeat of the Agile Release Train. The PI Planning event is two days and focuses on planning with all the teams, stakeholders, and product owners/managers in one place, preferably all face-to-face, to review the program backlog and determine the direction of the business.
When you look at the PI Planning process in Applied SAFe you see all of the steps that need to be taken, in order to perform PI Planning successfully. As you click on each activity in Applied SAFe, you see the descriptions of what needs to be done, who should do it, as well as what tools you may use to perform this activity.
When diving into all activities of PI Planning, one of the important steps is the Review Draft Plan activity. If you go to that exact activity in Applied SAFe and scroll down, you will see it is supported by various tools. One of those tools is now the piplanning app by RenTouch. When you click on that specific tool you will get more details about the tool, an introductory video, along with all of the activities that this tool is used in.
In addition to this, we have specific guidance on how the tool is used. For each activity, we also have specific practices with trainings and materials specific to this tool. With this, we have fully integrated the piplanning app into Applied SAFe and it is available as a configurable option.
Overall, this helps to ensure proper tool usage in Applied SAFe. This is exactly what you will need for tool validation when looking at regulatory environments.
